ℹ️ Info
How it works
Grabbing a seat 🙋
Find a ride on the board → tap Grab a seat → leave your first name and number → you get the driver's contact instantly. Text them to agree on pickup spot and the gas/toll split.
No ride that fits? Post a ride request (Post tab → "I need a ride") — drivers watching your route get pinged, and anyone who can take you gets your contact only when they offer.
Offering a ride 🚗
Driving down (or back) anyway? Post your trip in the Post tab. Riders who grab seats appear in My rides with their contact. You arrange the rest by text.
The deal 🤝
No fees, no fares, no apps in the middle. Drivers are neighbors already making the trip; riders chip in for gas and tolls directly. That's it.
Getting to Stone Harbor — FAQ
Is there a rideshare or carpool to Stone Harbor?
Yes — you're looking at it. Down the Shore Rides is a free community carpool board: neighbors already driving between NYC, Philadelphia, and Stone Harbor (Exit 10 on the Garden State Parkway) post their empty seats, and riders grab one and split the gas and tolls. No fees, no fares.
How do I get from Philadelphia to Stone Harbor without a car?
Check the board for a Philly → Stone Harbor seat — it's about 90 minutes door to door. Nothing posted? Put up a ride request and drivers on that route get pinged. Seasonal buses exist, but a shared ride is usually faster, cheaper, and takes you right where you're going.
How do I get from NYC to Stone Harbor?
Grab a NYC → Stone Harbor seat on the board — roughly 2½–3 hours down the Parkway — or post a ride request so drivers heading down can find you. Driving back up? Post your empty seats and make the trip cheaper for everyone.
Do Uber and Lyft work in Stone Harbor?
They operate but are sparse on Seven Mile Island, and a one-way trip to Philly or New York costs a small fortune. Riding along with a neighbor who's already making the trip is the budget option.
Is this the 7 Mile Jitney?
No — the jitney shuttles around Avalon and Stone Harbor on summer weekends. This board is for getting to and from the island. Both towns share Parkway Exit 10.
Community guidelines
Confirm by text. A grabbed seat isn't a ride until you've texted each other and agreed on pickup time and place.
Split fair. A fair share of gas + tolls, agreed before the trip. Drivers aren't making money; riders aren't freeloading.
Show up. If plans change, text early so nobody's waiting on a corner with a beach chair.
Be kind. This works because it's neighbors. Treat it that way.
Safety
Meet in public. Choose well-lit, public pickup spots — a Wawa works great.
Tell a friend. Share the driver's name, contact, and your route with someone before you go.
Trust your gut. You can always walk away from a ride that doesn't feel right — no explanation needed.
Buckle up, and drivers: only post trips you're actually making, with seats that actually exist.
Use the Report button on any ride or request, or email jcptech@gmail.com with the ride details.
Terms of use
What this is. Down the Shore (DTS Rides) is a free community bulletin board that lets neighbors share empty car seats. It is not a taxi service, transportation carrier, rideshare company, or transportation network company, and it does not provide, arrange, or supervise transportation.
Cost-sharing only. Drivers must be making the trip for their own purposes. Riders may voluntarily share actual trip costs (gas, tolls). No one may use this board to offer transportation for profit. This keeps rides within New Jersey's ridesharing/carpool exclusion (N.J.S.A. 39:5H-2) and outside commercial-carrier rules.
No vetting. We do not verify identities, licenses, insurance, or driving records, and we make no promises about any person, vehicle, or ride. You decide who you ride with.
Assumption of risk. You use this board and any resulting ride entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators of this site disclaim all liability arising from rides, posts, or contact between users, and you release them from any such claims.
Your conduct. You must be 18 or older. Post only true information about real trips. No commercial, harassing, or unlawful content. We may remove any post and block abusers at our discretion.
The legal bits. Provided "as is," no warranties. New Jersey law governs. If a part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stands. We may update these terms; continued use means acceptance.

Privacy
What we store: exactly what you type — first name, contact info, and ride details — plus, for spam control, a one-way hashed (unreadable) form of your network address when posting, and your notification subscription if you turn alerts on.
Who sees your contact: a driver's contact is shown only to riders who grab a seat; a rider's contact is shown only to that ride's driver. Contacts never appear on the public board.
Same-device controls: when you post, claim, request, or answer a request, this browser saves a private token so My Rides can show your details and let you cancel or remove your own item. There are still no accounts or passwords.
Analytics: we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which features get used so we can keep the board useful. It sets cookies; ad personalization and Google signals are turned off, and we never use it for advertising.
What we don't do: no accounts, no ads, no selling or sharing your info with anyone. Notifications, if you enable them, go only to your own device and can be turned off anytime.
Cleanup & removal: past rides and requests drop off the board automatically, and everything about them — names, contacts, notes — is permanently deleted from our records about a week after the ride date. To remove a post sooner, cancel it in My Rides or email jcptech@gmail.com and we'll delete it.
